Men’s Behaviour Change Program
Star Health’s Men’s Behaviour Change Program provides individual and group counselling as well as case management for men who use violence against their families.
About The Men’s Behaviour Change Program
The group is a 20 week program, which aims to support men to take responsibility for their use of violence and abuse.
Individual men’s case management offers practical support to men to address their needs in relation to their use of violence. This may include support to address housing, mental health, substance use, legal, immigration and employment issues.
Star Health’s Men’s Behaviour Change Program adheres to No To Violence’s Minimum Standards for practice. The program also provides support to those affected by the violence such as children, partners, ex-partners, and other family members. Available services include:
- Individual counselling and advocacy
- Support and information
- Referral to appropriate services
- Support through group programs
The Family Violence Program at Star Health provides a holistic response to families who have experienced, or are experiencing, family violence. We provide a range of children-centred and family focussed services including:
- Family violence case management and care coordination for men
- Risk assessment and safety planning
- Women’s and Children’s individual counselling and group programs
- Post-Men’s Behaviour Change Program fathering group, Dads About Kids
- Supported referrals to other services
How do I access the Men’s Behaviour Change Program?
The Men’s Behaviour Change Program is targeted to men (and their families) living or working in the areas of Port Phillip, Stonnington, Bayside, Kingston and Glen Eira. Men from other areas can also participate.
Referral to the program can be via:
- Self
- Child Protection
- Corrections Victoria
- Victoria Police
- Other Men’s Behaviour Change Programs
- Men’s Referral Service (MRS)
- A Counselling Order made by the Moorabbin Justice Centre
Entry to the Men’s Behaviour Change Program is via an assessment process where we discuss our programs, your situation and needs, and identify your goals for participating in our programs.
Group programs run from 7pm – 9pm on various week nights and at different locations throughout the year. Groups are available at St Kilda and Mentone.
How much will it cost?
Fees for the group program are dependent on individual circumstances; however typical cost is $25 per session.
Nil cost is associated for individual men’s counselling or case management.
